i've been lurking for awhile now and thought i'd say hi.
DSR has been in the back of my mind for the last 10 years or so. as my AFM days are behind me and i've recently inherited an old Prince (really old), it's come up again. not sure what i'm going to do with this car (if anything) over the next year. it certainly will never be competitive, but i don't see why it wouldn't be fun to play with. there's talk of converting it to CSR and running the end of...

Do I have to take the SCCA driving school again?

Hello,
I passed the SCCA school in 2008, but due to mechanical issues and Arnold taking away my play money, I still haven't fullfilled the 2-race requirement to obtain my license.
Is there a way around it, or do I have to take the school again?

Im researching cars now for post gradschool entry into DSR. I know carting would be the beginning, but Im still too young to start 'slow', and I have a friend in pro racing who can help me if need be. Right now I am planning on a Westfield XTR2 with 09 CBR1000RR power and removal of the front lights to keep it DSR. I want a new chassis that will last for a while. Build/FF->DSR conversion finally underway!!!

FINALLY, the conversion process is well and truly underway, turning my old FF SE-1 into a DSR... chopped off the engine bay, had the frame blasted, and now we finally have a shop to do the work in - rented a space, got the welding table in, TIG, fridge full of beer, and steel orders have arrived!

Here's hoping we have a roller within a month, and maybe even lucky enough to have something that'll move under its own power another month or two after that (budget still being a...

Hi everyone,

I am pretty new to the sport but I have been trying to do a lot of research. It seems to me that there are nearly limitless manufacturers, but a few names stick out WAY at the top.

Cheetah, A-mac, SPEADS, and Stohr all come to mind. Stohr in particular has a lot of race wins and even more fans.

So my question is;

What makes Stohr the best?

Is it the Aero? Chassis? Suspension? Almighty combination of everything?...

What does everyone use in Northern CA for track time besides SCCA race days?
T-hill has a few open test days but the majority of track time seems to be for non race cars.
Just curious what people have used or currently use. Good/bad experiences? db limits?

Air Compressors

In the previous discussion re: generators, an interesting note came up regarding air compressors.

I have a couple of recommendations in addition to the nitrogen bottle or air tank.

1. I have a small, 12V air compressor in both my wife's mini (where there is no spare tire) and on my tow van. They are both quick and more than adequate for filling tires at the track...takes a couple of minutes per tire. That is a good choice.

Need some help. I've been researching gas powered electric generators for the trailer. My question is how much power do I really need? 1000, 2000 or 3000 watts? The only things I plan on running are a 120v winch, air compressor, coffee pot, etc. Any words of wisdom?

Fuel starvation

My 1st novice race I got lapped by a WF1 5 times.
The 2nd novice race I picked up the pace and only got lapped 2 times.
With 5 of 30 minutes to go the car started to miss in some corners.
The tank is 12 x 12 x 8 inches high, holds 5 gallons, foam filled and has a 4 x 6 x 2 inch deep sump at the middle rear of
tank. The external pump is 8 inches away from tank and the pump inlet is 1 inch below the tank outlet.
I had 1 and 1/4 gallons unused.

After a lot of research, asking a zillion questions, and a lot of dreaming I finally picked up my Shannon PS. The drive from Omaha to Charleston, WV was long but uneventful. West Virginia had to be the highlight of the trip. It really is a beautiful state.

Race safety gear advice

Hey all,

Looking for some advice on the numerous brands of race safety gear out there (driver suits, gloves, shoes, etc). Let me know if there are any brands I should avoid. Been looking at 2 layer suits, mainly Sparco. Also, just want to verify that motorcycle helmets are legal in SCCA and others groups as long as it's rated SA2000 or better. Went through the 09 GCR and didn't see anything disputing that but just wanted to verify.

RLC Race Dashes

I was wondering if any one has experience with this data acq. system. I saw them at Willow Springs last weekend and they let me try it for the day in my porsche spec. car. I wanted to know if anyone has used them from extended periods of time and how they hold up as a unit. Thanks for the input, they seem like a great product for the money.

Stock Honda 954 versus stock Hayabusa?

My son and I entered our first track day at Thunderhill last week. Best time was 2 min. -11 secs. on 3 mile course. Painfully slow by DSR standards but fun like never before experienced on pavement.
