Ran an R-1 in my circle track car (a while ago). I used 108-110 intake, and 100-101 exhaust. Ran well.

I recall Dema was still teaching a night class on high performance engines at a local community college just a few years ago. Might be worth looking into.

One of the best experiences that I have ever had through racing was hanging out at his shop. Although I spent most my time there harassing them to grind a cams for me I learned a ton about the old school hot roding roots that exist right here in our...

Dema Elgin is one of the best cam guys in this country. He used to have a shop in Redwood City and was one of the first instructors in the De Anza Auto Teck program. He was also my cam sponsor back in the Sprite and Corvette days. He is semi-retired and still lives in Northern CA. Fabian, I cannot remember if I have the book, I did or have or read it a long time ago, David

Thanks David, That would match up with what we thought we had. I pulled the engine and took it to the bike shop this morning to have them check to make sure that they didn't get intake and exhaust mixed up. Hopefully they will be able to figure out something. Usually the intake is around 104 - 106 and the exhaust 100-103. Maybe you could briefly describe your cam timing procedure. David

Hello, I have a basically stock pre 03 R-1 that I need to get the stock cams degreed to maximize power from the engine. I say basically stock because it has the racing clutch basket, oil management in the pan, the stator has been removed, and it was originally a FI head, but has been converted to run carbs. The internal pieces parts are stock. A friend suggested degreeing the cams. We set them at what we thought was the correct settings, but now the engine doesn't run without spitting...
