I thought I would pass along that the Reno Region is having their first sanctioned SCCA race this June 13-15 at Reno-Fernley raceway. This will be a
National/Restricted Regional/Vintage. Since Reno is about the same distance as Laguna, I'm going to run the vintage race. I have been watching the
progress of this track over the last few years and bet it will be a fun weekend.
Here is a link to their site:

Based on the configuration they plan on running, I was able to find a video of some Radicals at a track day that might be of
use to anyone that is thinking about running it.

Cheers!

Anyone have any more data on RFR... | #1

Was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on top speed for a sports racer.....trying to get a handle on gearing before going. Never been before but it looks
relatively fast. Should be fun.
Also, anyone whos been there.....bumpy track or smooth?......Any other thoughts or advice? Thanks Fabian |

Friday Test day report | #2
|
Just a quick update;
Arrived at RFR today. 3 DSR's (Mike Clauss/Speads, Perry Richardson/WF1 and Bob Fox/Squirt) and 1 CSR (Mazda powered sports racer). Perry and Mike did some testing. Reports were the track is fun but bumpy. Since this is the first visit for some of us west coasters, there is a lot of "where the heck does this track go". Sitting low in the car makes sight of the line difficult (many blind brows as a result). Looks like a pretty low turn out but not surprising given Fathers day weekend and the price of gas. Weather is clear sunny and in the low 90's. The wife is taking pictures so stay tuned for up dates through out the weekend. Cheers! |

This was a very fun weekend. Although the entry was pretty low (total about 95, they were hoping for 150) it wasn't too bad considering the price of
fuel and it being Father's day weekend. There was a pretty decent mix in the "wings N' things" category with Perry Richardson ending up on
the outside of the front row with a 1:16.204 in his 2000 Stohr (with WF1 updates). Pole sitter was an Atlantic in the 1:11 range. Mike Clauss in his Speads
posted a 1:19.585 while Bob Fox did a 1:32.154 in Squirt. I don't have a time for Kevin Mitz in the FB Stohr he was running since he had a hit for sound
and had his times disallowed.

I was over here crewing for a friend (porsche 944 running the regional group only).
I think the Stohr made it down to the 1:17's on Sunday as per the announcer. I am surprised any of the SR's got zinged for sound as they all seemed pretty quiet to me. Maybe they just didn't meter all the other groups. I was curious how bad the bumps were... I figured if the door slammers were getting pitched around due to surface, the SR's would be in for a world of hurt. I was thinking of going there next month during their PDX program to do some testing... My real question is would you want to run the track again? |

Sound is a very funny animal....these MC powered cars are very quiet to me (and most others) but the frequency seems to be the issue. The loudest car I've
ever heard is Jacek Mucha's CSR...and it is "plug your ears loud", but he rarely gets hit for sound.
If they hold this event next year I think we'll make the trip. Matt Conrad Phoenix Race Works, LLC

Does anyone have an official results sheet? Mylaps does not show me as a DNS and it is important for the S2 numbers that I am counted as a DNS. What do the
official results show?

I saw the mylaps results last night. The problem is that I need to know if I show up as a DNS on the Official results sheet. Does anyone have an official sheet
from the track?

Stan , Fred got 2 laps in practice before the motor vented.

During my years working Timing & Scoring, a starter was always defined as an entrant that took the green
flag during the race. Whether an entrant got on track for practice or qualifying should only factor into the refund policy.

The GCR has changed since you last raced. I need to see an official result sheet to see if I was properly listed as a DNS. This is important as S2 is trying to maintain our National and Runoffs status. Can anyone help. I am at Mid-Ohio and Mont Tremblant till next week when I can start my own investigation. Fred |

Current Rules | #13 | ||

Fred,
I'm trying not to be offended by your comment. I checked the current 2008 GCR and it still reads the way that I remember from lo those many years ago 2008 EDITION GENERAL COMPETITION RULES 6.7.2. Classification of Car as a Race Starter To be considered a starter, a car shall receive the green flag at the start or, in the case of an aborted start, cross the control line. Cars that are on the course, not in the pits, when the green is displayed shall be considered starters. A car which completes the pace lap for the first start is considered a starter. Cars entering the race after the start shall also be considered starters. A car shall enter the race before the checkered flag is displayed in order to be classified as a starter. |

Tom:
The part of the GCR to which Fred is referring is under 9.1.12. PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS FOR NATIONAL CLASSES Note 1: For the purposes of this section, "entrants" shall be defined as drivers classified in the final official race results of National races as finishers, did-not-finish (DNF), did-not-start (DNS), or disqualified (DQ). Uh, Fred,
You asked about DNS/STARTERS, and that is what I commented on. Dave corrected your question, not my answer. |

No, Tom. I asked if anyone had an official results sheet that lists me as a DNS. You don't, so why comment?
Basically, you can't help but you needed to stick your 2 cents in where it was not needed. Fred |
