I would like to change my gear indicator from a calculated type to using the Suzuki provided method. I tapped into the pink wire at the sensor and it does not seem to work. Should I use the wire that comes from the ECU to the dash ???? Or did I choose the wrong wire ??? Thanks for any help. Dave...

Dave, The pink wire is the correct wire, You must have somthing else going on if you cant get it to work

What are you hooking it to? An Aim system?

Yes, going to an Aim system. Thx, Dave....

Maybe you need to cal the AIM system, or are you not seeing any signal/signal change when looking at it in RaceStudio?

You need to calibrate it with the engine running, and if our experience is any indication, you still might not get it to correctly differentiate between 5th
and 6th gear.

That would explain it. I did not do it with the engine running. Had everything powered up but static. Thx, Dave.

ECU power required for gear position signal | #7 | ||
|
The ECU provides the power for the sensor (the Aim system is just measuring the output voltage, so you have to have the ECU on. For most cars, this means the
ignition is switched on. Sometimes there is a slightly different voltage when the engine is running vs. just the ignition on. Good luck.

The output on the pink wire is the same for the neutral and 6th gear. Since there is also a neutral position light in my car ( from a separate ecu
wire....can't recall the color off hand) I elected to make the dash read 1 through 6. During calibration you'll need to disconnect the wire for the 0
position. That way when you are in 6th, it'll read 6th and not 0.
Kind of a PITA, but it works out. Also, it is true the outputs are slightly different with the engine running. So try to calibrate with the engine running or you might get bogus numbers. Fabian |
