Arnie Loyning was ensconsed up at the entry to Turn 1 capturing front straight speeds - in CSR the fast guys were hitting 149-150 at the end of the straight
(the French boys), in DSR the speeds were a bit more distributed (Garry Crook skewed the curve...

Darrell,
I gave a pretty good synopsis on the ApexSpeed Sprints FA thread. Long story short, we had a hydraulic failure in the gearbox in morning qualifying, and ran out of clock to fix the problem. Pressure line to the clutch slave cylinder burst in the bellhousing after being abraded on an exposed edge, and the only way to get at the offending part is to break the car in half... it was a heartbreaking way to end the weekend, as we were making 2+ second improvements to the car (and my sloppy / rusty driving) every session, and I believe we had a realistic shot by Sunday afternoon to sniff at the podium. For me, our Sprints results were completely UNSAT, but we will be installing a bulkhead fitting to avoid this issue in the future. Much work to do in the next few months to get the Ralt ready for the big show... Cheers, Rennie |

We were taking trap speeds also and did not see anyone skewing the curve, I'd love to see the data.
Myself, Bootz, Crook were in the 146-148 range going into 1. Most WF1's were in the 139-144 range. My data shows the top speed of 151 entering 12 after going through kink at 142mph with carosel speeds of 111mph. And 149 into 5. We also played with aero quite a bit to try to increase top speeds but surprisingly saw no change. But we'll continue to play with this at the CAT National. I saw data of JR's speeds from last year, 153 into 1, 155 into 5 and the same for 12. C'mon Gary (and everyone else), share some data, I'm sure you're running some type of data system. BTW, my wheel circumference I have entered is 70.057 for rears and 62.832 for fronts.

To correct speeds -- normalize to lap distance | #6 | ||

To equalize the data, tell us what your data system thinks the track length is (in feet). We can then develop correction factors for various data systems.

Have to give credit to Tom Robertson for the quote.
That was way back at the turn of the century. Saw 148-149 then and it's the same today. Bought a radar gun way back then (bullstuff stops) and it must have been broke as it never ever registered any C/DSR above 150, everywhere including downhill out of T4 at Daytona. (Can't say Igo them all but have sat and clocked the fastest of them over the years... I'd bet French has been really fast over the years but never caught him on hte gun.) But, My data said the "North side of 160" and 154.5 upside down and backwards and my propeller diameter was 81.680726531498... But then that's what the forum is for...

How accurate does everyone feel the GPS speed is? We run the AIM Pista w/ GPS.
Don's best top speed was 152.9 but averaged more like 150. I noticed the wind made a good difference for which straight was the quickest. |

I use a Motec and the GPS speed is with in 1 MPH of wheel speed and most of the time it is within .5 MPH
