Interesting discussions discussions on several threads about designing and building various types of "aero" cars, mainly flat bottom vs tunnel cars, but with wing and diffuser thoughts thrown in for good measure. However, after one implements (or buys) his own high tech killer car, it must still be driven in a way that actually takes advantage of the aero stuff, else all you've done is thrown money at your race car, maybe made it look cooler, and probably made it heavier. It would be interesting to hear from folks who have actually driven a good aero car and hear what kinds of things you may have had to change in your driving style, or had to be more careful of, in that environment. And someone who has gone from a non-aero car to an effective one might have the most insight into the changes required. In particular, I'm curious about things like:
1) possible increased sensitivity to yaw angle relative to a non-aero car, as the tunnel or whatever assumes a larger angle of attack;
2) changes in braking procedure (hard on the brakes at high speed, then gradually easing off?);
3) how you re-train your reflexes to take advantage of the increased cornering speeds, especially if you've spent most of your racing career driving non-aero equipment (I know, ALL real racers can do this instinctively..........sure!) I guess the short answer here is "try it till you run off the track", but as I said, I'm curious about the experiences of those who've done it.
