I don't think John is taking his Turbo to the ARC. He has a 1500 that'll be raced.

Not sure what you're implying here NASA racer. We think it's great there will be a variety of cars on the track... and even if the Radical Turbo was out, doesn't mean he'd be in the same subclass as you.

It's come out our attention that there may be some confusion on what's required to race ARC. Valid and current SCCA and NASA liscensed competitors don't have to get additional medical, car log or competition licenses. It's easy: just sign-up and race. The only significant requirement that you might not have at your finger-tips is somehow we need to be convinced that you're a clean driver. That can be done through a driving resume, perhaps you've attended a NCRC event in the past, you know some of the folks in the club who can vouch for you, or you can give me or Dave Mills a call/email where we can have a chat. Fairly painless stuff.

The SR field is filling nicely with lots of Radicals (as you might imagine) and a Cheetah and a Totota World. We do not have any open-wheeled cars in the group at this time. Could become a SR only field, which would be a nice change for some of you.

Been at the track for the last two days, so sorry for the late reply... Not sure what you mean by stuff. But here's an overview on what we'll require:
- Safe car: four pt rollbar (six recommended), 5/6pt harnesses, fire suppression system, SA95 or newer helmet, two layer SFA driver suit/gloves/socks/etc, working brake light(s), catch-cans, arm restraints in an open car, etc. This is pretty standard stuff. With the ARC format we don't need to regulate aero, engines, or other performance components. The 7 pages of GCRs are here www.amracing.org/docs/GCR.pdf

- Annual tech from other clubs usually suffices, however we'll give your ride a quick look at the track to be sure everything's in working order. You'll need your log book from your club and we'll give you an ARC log book.

- The medical you get for your license at SCCA/NASA or other groups will cover our requirements, if you have a valid (or recently valid) license. If you don't have a medical form, you can go to one of the med clinics to get quickly signed off, rather than waiting 2mos through your medical insurance.

- Certification. We do look at all drivers applying. We want to ensure good competition but even more than that, we need to feel confident that you can 1) drive the car well under race conditions, and 2) drive the car without banging into others even in the heat of the moment (show a strong desire for self and car preservation). Having, or not having a license from another organization does not get you automatically certified for ARC, or prevent you from certification. Certification can happen over the phone or through email, but if we don't know you or anyone you know, it can happen with a checkout at a NCRC event or can do a checkout during the qual/practice session at the race.

The bottom line is we want to have another racing forum, one where drivers aren't encumbered with crushing rules and regs, and where you can have a great time racing... not sitting around for a whole weekend or spending your time repairing damage from other drivers. Drivers that want such an environment are a perfect fit.
