Thunderhill, CA March 19-21 double national |
Lead | ||
|
Looks like we have 12 DSR's pre registered already for the upcoming double at T-Hill. By the way it's all DSR's and spec ford racers only in this run group. Could be perty fun. Time ta dust off the hot rod, pump up da tares on eh trailer and git ready. I'm sure there will be more signing up at the track.

12 DSRs and 5 CSRs are pre-entered.
Of note is that 2 of the CSRs are actually DSRs that are entered for both classs. The Regions' choice to run the classes in separate run groups has allowed John Hill (2003 Stohr DSR) and Marc Hoover (1999 Cheetah SR1) to try for 4 wins in one weekend using the same car. That might be a lot of work in 3 days. Presumably one could do well enough in Divisional points in both classes to earn double tow money to the Runoffs, as well as any contigency prizes (i.e. from Mazda) for Division championships. It's too bad that they did'nt move CSR instead of DSR, that way S2's could have run as CSR's also to help the CSR car count.

Re: DSR Race Results | #8 | ||

Although I don't have exact times, I was there Saturday and recall that Sterenka and Hill were in the 1:47s for qualifying, with Sterenka very slightly faster and setting a new qualifying record. Sterenka, Arken and Chesmore were all in the 1:47s during the race's opening laps, in that order. Nathan led very ably for the first 8 laps or so, then Starenka was able to get by and open a good lead before suddenly retiring with several laps to go. Kudos to all for a great race!

Sunday | #9 | ||

Richard Steranka (carbon fiber Stohr) won the DSR race. Hill was leading until the motor shut off - electrical problem maybe.
John Hill won the CSR race (in his Stohr DSR). Don't know any more yet. |

DSR saturday's finish pos:
1. Nathan Chesmore (qual 1:47.3) Cheetah 2. David Arken (qual 1:48.6) Amac 3. Kevin Mitz (qual 1:52.2) Cheetah 4. Eric Liebscher (qual 1:53.0) Amac 5. Ellen Ferguson (qual 1:56.4) Stohr 6. Andrew Juner (qual 1:55.5) Amac 7. Marc Hoover (qual 1:49.8) Cheetah 8. Sigmund Knapstad (qual 1:48.4) Stohr 9. Frank Lattucca (qual 1:57.9) Beasely 10. Richard Steranka (no qual time) 11. John Hill (qual 1:50.4) DSR and SRF were sharing the track together. Interesting... Saturday's race was fun, splitting traffic and slipping through the packs of spec Fords. There was a 16 - 23 seconds per lap difference between the lead DSR's and twenty five+ SRF's. Lot's of action going on all over the track. Chesmore, Arken and Knapstad broke away from the other DSR's early. Knapstad and Arken passed eachother a couple of times, both within striking distance behind Chesmore. About 2/3rds through the race Chesmore runs over a large debris, it ends up stuck to Knapstad's wing. Knapstad passes Chesmore. A couple laps later Knapstad retired with mechanical. Chesmore wins, David Arken takes 2nd despite a spin and Kevin Mitz finishes 3rd. Cheetah, Amac, Cheetah. Ahh - old school! I didn't have sunday's qualifying sheets but did hear John Hill set pole with a 1:46.2 (he ponied up for M. Jaremko's run offs winning Stohr and drives it well) DSR sunday's finish pos and quick race lap: 1. Richard Steranka (1:47.8) Stohr 2. Sigmund Knapstad (1:47.4) Stohr 3. Nathan Chesmore (1:48.0) Cheetah 4. Kevin Mitz (1:49.1) Cheetah 5. Eric Liebscher (1:52.8) Amac 6. Frank Lattuca (1:57.6) Beasely 7. David Arken (1:51.4) Amac 8. Andrew Juner (1:54.9) Amac 9. John Hill (1:47.0) Stohr Marc Hoover, no time. Cheetah Ellen Ferguson, dns. Stohr Sunday's race had 4 or 5 cars qualify within about 1 sec. from pole. Exciting start. Hill, followed by Steranka, Knapstad, Chesmore and Mitz. Next lap: Hill, followed by Steranka, Chesmore and Knapstad. Steadily, Each lap Hill pulls ahead bit by bit until something goes kaput. Now the lead is Steranka with Chesmore in pursuit. 3rd place seams to be out of the picture for now. Meanwhile, Marc Hoover (2001 national champ is out with mechanical). Laps later, here comes Knapstad and he's charging. Chesmore sees him and they both begin to real in Sterenka. With two laps to go, Knapstad passes Chesmore and they finish: Steranka, Knapstad, Chesmore, Mitz and Liebscher top 5. It was an excellent weekend, about 75-85 degrees. The usual DSR comraderie and good close racing. Thanks to all who helped. The DSR folks are the best! See everyone soon. |

Here are some photos from Saturday's grid.
Saturday's race was one of the best I've seen in quite some time. Nathan, Sig, and Dave running in lock-step lap after lap. Two abreast at time through turn 7 & 8. Marc and Kevin going at it. Ellen (delayed due to clutch trouble) and Richard coming up through the field after starting last. Frank doing a great job in his first race outing in his new Beasley B2. I think Eric was the only one who ran a "lonely" race without other D's around him. It sounds like Sunday's race was one that should not have been missed also. Tom Clayton. Nice photos Tom - I would sure dread to see that flock of Spec Fords griding up with the usual fast C/DSR group!
BTW - whats' the deal on the pit hoist and car dolly? Clark |

Re: ThunderHill | #19 | ||

Clark,
Local FC racer Doug Brenner has a business, Brenner Fabrication. He is producing and selling both the hoist $1499, and the rolling stand $549. There was a post about this quite some time ago. After several email exchanges back then, I had a chance to see the products in person and meet Doug. He's not trying to make a fortune on these. Mostly, as he says, trying to help out his fellow racers to get off their knees and stop breaking their backs. Doug's willing to cutomize the stand for sports racer heights (wide center sections can make access to the cockpit more difficult than on a formula car when raised up high.) See their web site for more info. Bill, Doug asked if they were currently sponsoring our forum. I told him that I didn't think so. If you contact his wife via their web site, we might have another sponsor. Tom Clayton. Visit and add to the Sports Racer Network.

Congrats to Nathane and Richard on there wins this weekend in there RennWerks prepped cars they did a great job Richard also qualified on pole for the CSR race on sat with a 1:46.3 then had motor problems. So we put in a stock motor for the race but ended up blowing an air shifter line. I had my share of problems all weekend, electrical and no brakes. Sundays grid was Hill and Sternka in the 46's Sig, Nathane and myself in the 47's Hoover and Dave Arkin in the 48's it was a great race all around.
