I am currently using a 530 chain with 62 links - 16 tooth front and 47 tooth rear. Is this a common length for dsr cars as I am having premature wear problems?

Your wear problem probably has more to do with alignment, sprocket condition, tension and lubrication than just chain length. What type of chain are you
using, and how long is the chain lasting?

The sprockets are new, both sprockets are aligned perfectly. Using Bellray P1, and tsubaki hsl 530. have had minimal problems before but now with more power
there is no chain life. I realize that I need to go to RK x-ring or tsubaki omega - 530, but would like to know if 62 links is abnormaly short.

gonna happen. 62 links isn't an unrealistic length.

Thank you for the length info. Last year I got 2 weekends from a chain. This year, one race. As length is not an issue I will install a 530 sigma. Thanks for
your input.

there has to be an issue. In my formula four cars (rapid movements) which both Jim Morton and Bob Long had bought, there were no problems. In my prototype car
I used the same chain for four years!! the 750 engine just doesn't get the kind of abuse that would damage the chain.
Are you subjecting the chain to high shock loads? If you accelerate over rough pavement (like solo 2), where the rear axle spins, grabs, spins, then you might exceed the load capacity. Also load reversals where the shock of braking could be transmitted through the chain will quickly destroy the chain, but I can't see that happen in your instance. If you like, I am in the Toronto area. Not sure how close to you, but bring it by my shop or call me at the office 905-294-4946 Tom Owen towenster@gmail.com |
