Is it true that L2 (West) cars actually finish in the top 5 in IMSA Lites? If so why (Drivers, cars???)

It's true! Tom was top 10 at Sebring and then 4th and 2nd at Miller even with that really long straight. Jordan in the second qualifying session was
second overall. It's a shame he had mechanical issues for the races or he would have very possibly had a top 5 as well. I think the L-2 with a good driver
is competitive. Both cars have different strength and weaknesses which make for an interesting race. There are obvious differences in acceleration, braking,
cornering, so based on the track ...it is like watching the differences with P1 and P2 on a given track. Though please let me say L-1 cars have won all the
races so far and deservedly so. The approach for the top guys is to work the entire time they are at the track like the pros. It is really fun and educational
to see. The top guys in both show up with a really well prepared car, work hard in between and during all the sessions, and then drive like pros.
Both cars are fast, have a number of really good drivers, and there is great racing going on all over the track. I know, as I get to watch it all from the back! LOL. I'm still learning the car (Sebring the car had mech issue all week, so Miller was really the first time to drive the car when it was right) and hopefully can continue to slice time to become more competitive and maybe I can finish in front of a L-1 car one day. Cheers, Jim |

Hi Don,
I don't think the tunnels were legal for L-1 till now. They are at Lime Rock. Some of the L-2 cars were running tunnels at Miller but not all. Cheers, Jim |

The L-1 cars (Elans) seem to be picking up the pace where as the L-2's seem to be trailing in results. Is this due to a better aero package being run by
the Elan's? On the other hand the Elans at the club level don't hold a candle to the Stohrs or faster DSR's.

At Daytona the Elan is the fastest.

1. At Lime Rock the L-1s started running their tunnels so they are a different car now. I'll let the L-1 drivers talk about how they like it. 2. Remember
the Lites cars all run a spec tire, good tire but not as sticky as many, and the L-2 cars are all running a spec, sealed engine that is pretty well stock.
Engine lasts all year, but power is not comparable to what the top running DSR's are doing. Engines costs are not either
Apples and Oranges..... Cheers, Jim |
