Doing a lot of research on chassis and noticed that there aren't many closed cockpit xSRs out there. So far I've only found: Diasio, Fusion, and Saker.
Any others out there I'm not aware of? The other question is why?
Thanks, Mitch |

Not sure of the Fusion or Saker, but I am really impressed with the general engineering on my Diasio. My biggest complaint would be the extra weight of most
components....but this car is designed to be a "minimum maintenance" chassis. So the rod ends, steering links, all the suspension are over-built for
reliability. I just rebuilt my car after 50 hours and there was not one rod end, link, arm, etc that needed replacement. The base Diasio needs aero
development; mine has a full floor tray, front splitter, revised rear engine bay, rear venturi and side fences to help the air "do the right thing".
These are all simple changes to be made and the car works quite well. Not as quick as a top running open car, but also 200# heavier....and half the price.

Tom,
I really like both the D962 and D962R. The "R" is way outside my budget but the D962 is on my "wish list". I've seen your car on the net, very nice! |

Mitch,
Are you looking for other "current generation" cars that are around and in the potential purchase pool, or are you asking from a historical perspective? Q: Why? A: A sports racer by definition is an open cockpit car, and the SCCA sports racer rules actually specify the dimensions of the cockpit opening. The closed cockpit cars only get classified by exception and special allowance.

Hey Tom,
I guess a little of both really. I like the idea of the closed cockpit and was curious if there were any current constructors out there besides the ones listed above. I'm looking for a regional car to play with and wouldn't be opposed to owning an older SR with upgrades. I like the historical aspect as well. Really get a kick out of pouring over your site. Outstanding work! Man, that PBS really is slick! |

(Weight and complexity) I figured as much. I guess it's not that simple just slapping a top on a current generation D/CSR. Thanks all for your inputs.

Hello Mitch
I just found your post and I am with Fusion Racecars. I would be happy to answer any questions you have about our closed cockpit car. There is definately a bit of a weight penalty with the having a lid on the car, but for us the safety factor far out weighs the penalty. Dennis Bainbridge Fusion Racecars 604-618-2234. |
