Also curious how many Astechs are still active. According to the "chassis page" blue prints and body molds still exist. That could be interesting!
Thanks, Mitch

I was looking at a pic of John Bosso's Astech (Laguna Seca front straight) on the Tom's chassis page and noticed an unusual car in the back ground.
Just curious if anyone can identify this car.

I'm pretty sure it's a PBS. A very cool little machine. I don't remember who drove it but I could check some old results sheets...
Good luck, Randy |

Looking at results from a 1987 race at SPIR I see a PBS/Suzuki driven by Charles Longmire of Scotts Valley. I remember his car painted somewhat differently
than the one in your picture, but then again, it's been a long time. I do remember Charles' car hitting the wall exiting the final turn of Pacific
Raceway (Kent WA) and the driver's leg being broken in the crash. I don't think I saw the car again after that.
I'd like to see that machine again. Randy |

Are you sure, Randy? I ask because it doesn't look much like this PBS Coupe from Tom's pages.
Interesting looking car, though! |

I'm having a hell of a time finding any info on PBS cars. Lots of fiat stuff (engines, trannys, etc.) but nothing on the chassis. Maybe John Bosso can
help.
John, Any ideas on the identity of the car in my first post? Also, what's the status on your Astech? Mitch

Yes, that's a PBS. It was rebuilt by Chuck Koske and ran in the SF region for many years. He and his dad had heavily modified the PBS body work,
shortening it up, etc. They sold it and built a new car and body, of which that new body is what was used on the Fox cars.
PBS stands for Paul and Bob Swenson and the have a shop in Garden Grove. They've built some of the most ineresting cars, boats, motorcycles and even horses for carousels. Here is a link to the history section of their site. http://www.pbseng.com/PBSHistory.html Many of their cars are still active and running in vintage. My dad owned and ran a PBS MKIV for many years. I'll try to get him to dig out some old photos and get them scanned and posted. John Bosso

Mystery solved! | #7 | ||

Hey thanks so much John! Would love to see those scans of the PBS. So, what's the status of the Astech? No matter how many DSRs I look at I always come
full circle, back to your Astech. Would love to get my hands on one of my own.
Thanks again, SR history buff, Mitch |

We have completed the frame restoration on the Astech to as close to original as possible thanks to Bob Fox. Have fitted the orig Fiat 850 block and Webster
transmission, now we need to see about getting some new body work made (we have a nose mold with a new nose in it, but not much else. Need to talk to Kerry
Tholen again and see if she knows where the molds are), get it fitted, then strip it all back down for blasting, powder coat, then home for complete assembly.
Maybe mid year 2009 we could get it on track.
Not sure of any other Astech's still running. Last I talked with Kerry, she still has hers fitted with a Nissan. Dick Colburn still has some pieces and frames, not sure about the original car. He's on this site regularly, but he may be busy getting ready for the runoffs. John |

Astech update | #9 | ||
|
Hey John thanks for the update. Keep all us updated on your progress. I really do love hearing about older cars being restored and put back out on the track.
The Stohrs and West cars of today are great but IMHO the older "home builds" will always be near and dear to my heart.
Again as I've said in previous posts if you know of an older C/DSR out there collecting dust in someones barn let the world know. I'd be happy to turn one of them into cash for the owner. Gotta finish watching the VP debate! Take care. Mitch |

Hey, John, I am in fact at Topeka, I've been busy, I'm too slow, but happy to be here.
Of course, I have lots of photos from the 70s, which could be of help in getting the cosmetics right.
Best Wishes.

Another Astech here! | #11 | ||
|
These are some old posts but I figured i'd post anyways. I have recently acquired an Astech chassis and am currently beginning to restore it with my
step-dad. A Kawasaki ZX-10 engine has been donated by a family friend and that is what is going into it. I read the Astech chassis page and the history of it.
Look like the uprights are still available for it and possibly the body molds(?). As far as finished product I would like mine to resemble John Bosso's as
much as possible. I love the lines of that car and the paint scheme.
Any help, photo's, or blueprints would be REALLY helpful. Photo of the car in my step-dads shop.
