I had the good fortune to speak with Duck Waddle at the Hallett race this last weekend. He runs a vintage DSR and is looking for someone who can build/prep an
engine for him. He said that he has one that is in decent condition and wants it set up. I did not get his contact info, but he said that he is on staff at
Road America.

Engine building | #1 | ||

Dean, I used to build those engines. Won a lot of races with them. I still have about 4 or 5 of 'em and a lot of spares. Mike Duff (Motorcycle Hall of
Famer) used to build the cranks, he is now a woman now (long story !??!), so I guess I would have to build the crank myself.
If he is interested, I can be reached at 905-294-4946, or my email towenster(at) gmail(dot)com. |

What, just because he's now a she? Women can't build crankshafts? :-)

Dan Olberg in Minneapolis (sorry, no contact information) at one time owned the Ocelot brand DSR and built all of the Suzuki engines in his home machine shop.
If he is still around he would probably be your best resource. Then again, Duck should be familiar with Dan since they were contemporaries in early DSR wars.
I'll never forget Dan trying to optimize his mechanical fuel injection on the long straights at Brainerd. He'd lean it out and lean it out and just go faster and faster until he would stick a piston. Out would come the sandpaper to smooth out the piston and bore and soon he would be back running. Good guy. Marty |

Ocelots and Women .... | #4

Marty is right. Dan Oldberg has built more engines than I have looked at!! If not, maybe I can help. In terms of Mike Duff, this guy was a world class bike racer...married, kids, the whole deal. But he needed to be true to his real self...and just changed to a woman one day, dress, hair, nails the whole shebang. I lost my crank guy(girl)...kinda spooky. Guess he/she didn't want to break a nail. Heck I don't care what clothes you wear as long as the crank pins are straight, the welding is done right and the seals are going to work.....remember these cranks are in 7 pieces.... Mike(Michelle) was inducted into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame just last year.....the awards press conference was a v-e-r-y tense affair....nobody really knew
what to do,to say, etc. It was interesting to say the least.

Another Thought - I HAVE a built engine! | #5
|
I actually checked and I HAVE a brand new built engine that Duck might want to use. Daytona-spec.barrel, Mike Duff Crank, new pistons, rings, seals.Rods
fluxed and peened. Ran 1:29's at the old Mosport, as quick as the 2Litre fords of the day. Fox CDI ignition, two sets of Alex Mayes chambers, etc. Engine
is BRAND NEW, never started. Properly stored, and ready to go. That engine cost me $5G in its day, but was the quickest triple in the East.
Complete with Pro-38 Mics...and a ton of spares. That includes spare barrels, transmissions, engine cases, probably a dozen pistons, I think a set of 36's, whacks of stuff like sets of spark plugs, new cylinder heads, gaskets, seals, complete jet sets, carb linkages, all sorts of stuff. Time to empty the shop of my past....and I had a lot of stuff in the past!! hehe $2,500 will take it all. And I'll ship/deliver it for free. Duck can get a strong engine already built for the cost of freshening a stock one. Tust me, there is a truck-load of parts. Tom |

racing 750 and 850 buffalo | #6
|
Gene Davis just rebuilt my 850 lightened crank and hope to have everything together for opening day at MCSCC next weekend. Two questions; does anyone have 850
barrels and 850 pistons? Tom is all our stuff for 750s or do you have some Ocelot 850 engine parts? There is no sound like and 850 Ocelot engine at full song!

Sorry, All I have are 750 parts. But wasn't the 850 just a re-sleeved barrel with pistons? If so, I got a couple of barrels, and Wiseco will make anything
your heart desires...
And you are RRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrRRRRight about the sound of an 850 at 8Grand...... I always like my Suzies...because when you started em up, you cleared out all the bugs for 300 feet in all directions.!! hehe...and you tended to chase away anyone with good hearing.. hehe Tom in Toronto RRRRRRRRing Diiiinggggg Diiiiiingggggg Diiiiingggg....

Do you have any 750 squish hemi heads? Also any Ocelot 750 barrels? Ok, one more, lightened crank with square cut gear? Lee |

That is the aproximate weight of all the water buffalo parts and engines that have gone to Florida. Sorry, we are sold out of ringy dingy stuff. Chip is a
GREAT guy and paid my Bill with Goerge Dean in order to acquire all these old, dusty parts (and one brandy-new shiny two-stroker with Daytona barrel)
I even found a complete set of compo's for my 2L car...lost for almost 15 years! All buried beind my 2 stroke stuff. I also have a set of (4) magnesium 10" wheels for a F-Jnr if anybody is interested. Mini bolt pattern. Wow! what a buncha old stuff I have!! I guess that's why the kids on our block tell me I smell musty!! It can't be that I am even older than F-Jnr stuff! hehe Tom |
