This is interesting.
The first 5 CSR's were faster that the fastest Atlantic, but the mid-pack Atlantics were slightly faster than the mid-pack CSR's. The first 2 Atlantics were faster than the fastest DSR, and the mid-pack Atlantics were slightly faster than the mid-pack DSR's. Atlantic's, CSR's and DSR's were all 20-30 MPH slower than GT-1 cars through the same speed trap, even though the lap times were similar. Fun what you can find sometimes. Marty

the speeds where taken 120 feet before start/finish.the dsrs are just getting up to speed at that point.the big bore gt1s have huge torque and are up to speed
sooner.but slower in the corners than dsr.

Aren't the speed traps normally set up at the fastest part of the course? If so, this was a really odd placement.

DSR Jerry wrote:Not necessarily. Wherever they are taken, it is the same for every car. It just means you don't get top speeds. There are several timing loops at RA. Because of all kinds of other more urgent things for the first Runoffs at RA, it was easiest for the mylaps folks to do the trap near S/F. Next year, they will be able to set things up to capture data from several of the loops. I believe in most cases, the loops stand alone. That means we can get "sector" times (as is done for the F1). I believe there are some places where there are loops set apart a short distance where we can do trap times/speeds. This is something we will work out well before the 2010 Runoffs. Dave |
