Looks twitchy to me but I imagine it would feel just right to those moving up from carts.
The fuel cell looks like one of those vertical drag racing items--doubt it would pass SCCA. Any plans for wings? Price? Marty |

had first outing at a kart track - things worked pretty well. yes, there will be a full chain management system (it's just guards right now but more will
be added).
blog and video is at dpcars.net details and pricing are at palatov.com

Very impressive piece of engineering! I love the direct, no cable, shifter hook up. Can't get more positive feel than that! Sounds like you only got up in
the power range on one spot on that go cart track (in first gear?) Again, very impressive.

Clark Lincoln wrote:thanks, Clark. means a lot coming from you. i was never full throttle, that'll come later. yes the whole track was in 1st gear, top speed was 77.1 mph at 9,100 rpm about halfway down the 625-foot straight (coming off a 15 mph corner). at redline the speed is 89mph in 1st and when pushing harder it can easily be reached on that track, i just wasn't ready for it. the stock 'busa has so much torque that it can still break the tires loose at 10 mph. all-up weight with all fluids and me in the car was 940 lbs so i have a lot of weight reduction to accomplish (target is 850 with driver and bodywork, it will take a lot of doing but i suppose 900 will do fine in DSR, with a GSXR1000 motor instead of the big 'busa lump). bodywork arrives tomorrow (hopefully) and then we'll see what kind of odds i'm up against |

Wheel base ? | #8 | ||
|
What is the wheel base length ?
I can see that it is nice and wide, but it looks a little short in the wheel base catigory ? Is there a optimun ratio of the track width to wheel base length ? Just curious. m. |

Malfred wrote:wheelbase is 68.5". track is 60" front and rear. there are many opinions on what is 'optimum', it all depends on what you're trying to achieve. if there was one 'right' way of building a car, after more than 100 years of auto development we'd probably all be doing it that way by now |

What tooth count do your sprockets have to have such a fast 1st gear? It must be geared for 170 mph in 6th? The box with the large N must be a gear indicator. Where did you source it and how difficult to calibrate? Herman |

herman pahls wrote:29 teeth, stock front sprocket (17). yes it's geared to go about 165-170 in 6th. i can tell you no problems with 1st, that's the only gear i've tried so far the gear indicator is from geartronics - it uses the built-in suzuki sensor (only works with suzuki motors) and does not require any calibration at all. it also does the 5-th gear mod, i.e. makes the ecu think it's in 5th to use the unrestricted maps (lower gear maps are limited on hayabusa to keep bike riders from flipping it backwards). |

Ummm, yeah, coolers, that's it! | #14 | ||

I swear I've been around these things for a few years, I'm more than a little embarrased I couldn't figure that out on my own.
Which way does the air go through the coolers, up or down? How about some more detailed pics of the rear alu housing for dif and suspension pickup points? Thanks, GC |

dp4 fuel cell | #17 | ||

Shape is irrelevant. The cell shown in the pictures is a drag racing plastic cell with a foam fill. Probably not certified for SCCA and definitely not in the
required can.
BTW, it is considered polite on this board to post your real name. Marty |

Marty Nygard wrote: correct. the car is being designed primarily as a low-cost trackday toy and as such the fuel cell is the minimal (read cheapest) configuration that is still reasonably safe. there is plenty of room in the chassis for a variety of cells, including fully certified ones, that a customer can fit as desired (or we can do so per customer request). we will offer a DSR version with all the appropriate equipment, rule compliance (no AWD option obviously |
