Registered User Posts: 19 10/19/09 11:30:04	Hello, I've seen a couple of onboard videos where the driver does not take the hand of the steering wheel to shift the gear. As I am building up a bike engined race car for the moment i would be very interested in this method of shifting gears. I tried to realise this already on my previous project. ( A 750ccm GPZ powered go kart) but unfortunately I wasn't lucky, I didn't find any actuator strong enough to pull the gear lever. But as it seams like , a couple of you got this thing running . Can you maybe help me out and let me know how you constructed the shifting mechanism and where you got the parts from? A couple of pictures would be nice as well. Thanks in advance BRGDS Sam

Registered User Posts: 132 10/19/09 14:57:58	Some of the Stohr cars use a paddle shift and cables. A few are using air acuated shifters and there are a few electronic shifters. I have just installed the flat shifter but have not tried it on track yet. You can get info on the flat shifter by clicking on the link to the left for rill tech, thats who I bought it from. Also do a search on air shifters, there have been a few discussions on them. Mat

Thanks in advance BRGDS Sam Hi Sam, I run a pneumatic shifter system with with push buttons on the steering wheel. The system uses an air bottle from a paintball gun, 68 cu inches. Two small 12 volt solenoids a double acting pneumatic ram and a paintball gun regulator . The system is flawless and very inexpensive to build. You do need a source for compressed air. Nitrogen is not needed! I run mine off an 80cuft dive bottle ($6.00 to fill the dive bottle to 3000 psi) and one fill of the bottle on the car will last all day. Two 25min sessions, 275 shifts at least per session. I can leave my system charge and it will hold 1500psi for weeks! PM me know if you want some info on the parts. Linz

Registered User Posts: 133 10/26/09 08:40:13	Sam I used the flat shifter for the first time this weekend. It worked very well. Clutchless up and down shifting and no lift shifting on up shifts. There was some learning curve as when to downshift so it was as smooth as possible. Overall with only three sessions on it I am happy. Mat

Registered User Posts: 43 12/07/09 15:11:03	I m still thinking about installing a full electrical system, did anybody of you build a complete self made system with stock 12V solenoid actuators? Honestly i think 1000 $ is pretty much money for a solenoid actuator and a control box. The quick shift device was already installed on the crashed bike i bought, so I don't need a system which cut s the ignition during shifting..... I would be really thankful for any pics , links , part numbers etc.... Thanks in advance BRGDS Sam
